English section
English language teaching is one of the most distinguished tasks at our school.

Teaching at junior section:

The number of English lessons in the first three years are 3 lessons a week, in the fourth class children have 4 lessons each week.

Students learn English mainly through rhymes, songs and games in the first two years. Coursebooks are chosen according to the students’ interest and the characteristics of their age.

For our future first-class pupils our teachers held preparatory lessons once a month until registration time. The topics of these meetings are: colours, numbers, toys, parts of the body, food and drink, clothes.

Teaching at senior section:

All seniors from the 5th to 8th classes have 5 lessons a week.

Grammar and vocabulary are taught in a concentric way, which means that children first brush up their knowledge they have already acquired, then broaden the items with new ones. Project work is integrated in the syllabus which gives the students opportunities to talk and write about their own lives and relate the language they have learnt to their own experiences.

By the end of the 8th class students have an opportunity to sit for Pitman (City&Guilds) examinations at Achiever (B1) and Communicator (B2) levels. For those students who wish to take an examination a special course is held at our school.Fillér school is an accredited exam place, so students can take the exam here.

Our students regularly take part in different language competitions, among these we have outstanding results in the ”British culture and civilization” competition series. Every year our groups are in the best three groups of the 2nd district.

Those pupils who have difficulties in their English studies are taught and helped on extra lessons in the afternoons.

We put special emphasis on remembering British customs and traditions. Every year a Halloween party is organised for the classes. Students take part in special competitions in costumes. They make Jack-o-lanterns, play ”trick or treat” and other Halloween games, later they close the evening with a disco.

On Valentine’s Day they send cards to their friends. The letters are written in English and they are collected in a special mailbox and delivered by some students during the day.

At the end of the school year we have a „Penny Theatre” afternoon, when junior and senior student groups perform short scenes, act out tales, short plays.
